Virtuoso violinist, Lucia Lin created In Tandem—a series of creative collaborations with 10 BIPOC composers. In Tandem focused on promoting work that breaks barriers of color in classical music.

For the imagery, I was inspired by an idea in Peter Tufte’s book, Maps of the Imagination—in order to become better writers, we need to to expose ourselves to and get to know unfamiliar shapes.

XPRIZE released Current Futures, A Sci-Fi Ocean Anthology in honor of World Oceans Day. My illustration accompanied Vandana Singh’s story, Mother Ocean.

Camila and the Shadow of Dengue, informs and educates about dengue through a child’s perspective. It was an honor to work with the creative team of San Francisco agency W2O Group and sound design/animator Nathan Moody to create the short animation.

Created under a very tight deadline, it was a pleasure to see this story come to life in such a powerful way.

What an honor to receive the National Cherry Blossom Festival 2015 official image commission. My trip to Washington D.C. for the festival coincided with the beautiful, ethereal blossoming of hundreds of cherry trees.

The NCBF committee surprised me with this parade float using all the elements from my poster which starred singer, Lance Bass!

My author debut, the graphic novel Fake Chinese Sounds is inspired by my childhood in Pennsylvania. The reception has been generous and I am grateful to the educators, librarians and caretakers who continue to share it. One of the greatest thrills is that my book is now on the shelves of my childhood library and my alma mater’s library!

Lunar New Year is one of the largest celebrations of the year in many Asian countries. My own family celebrated with many special foods, my favorites were beautifully pressed moon cakes with red bean filling with the moon (an egg yolk) hidden in the middle.

It has been an honor and pleasure creating Lunar New Years poster for McDonald’s in the years of the Monkey, Snake, Rooster and the Dog. These posters hung in store windows in major urban areas.

National ad campaign for Friskie’s Rise and Shine cat food included print and TV advertising.

The Kona Coffee Cultural festival is a celebration of art, music, agriculture, friends, ohana, and of course, all things coffee. I am honored to have my art as the 50th anniversary official poster art. I explored the landscape as a quilt of different experiences.

In 2015, I showed a fragrant cup of coffee against magnificent Hualalai mountain, whose slopes are home to many world-class coffee growers.

The silhouette of Hualalai will forever be ingrained in my memory because it was what I looked up to and watched each morning’s sunrise during my morning surf sessions.

As a child, I was an avid stamp collector. So it feels very special to see my images on 3, United States Postal Service Forever Stamps. All stamps shown, designed and art directed by Ethel Kessler.
